Gist — Privacy Policy

Gist is built to be private by design. It runs entirely on your device. It has no account, no cloud, no tracking, and collects no personal data.

The short version: Your recordings, transcripts and notes never leave your phone. Krondor Tech cannot see them — there is no server they are sent to. The only time Gist uses the internet is a one-time download of the models it needs when you first set it up.

1. Who we are

Gist is an Android app published by Krondor Tech, an independent software studio based in Australia. You can contact us at admin@krondortech.com.

2. What data we collect

None. Gist does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information. We do not require or offer an account. We have no analytics, no advertising, no trackers, and no third-party data sharing of any kind.

3. How your data is handled on your device

Everything Gist does happens locally on your phone:

Audio recordings you make are processed on the device and stored only on the device.
Transcripts are produced on the device using an on-device speech-to-text model.
Notes are generated on the device by a local language model and saved only on the device.
Audio you import from an existing file is processed the same way — entirely on the device.

None of this content is uploaded anywhere. It stays in the app's private storage on your phone and is removed when you delete it in the app, or when you uninstall Gist.

4. Permissions Gist uses

Microphone — used only to record audio when you choose to record. Recording happens locally; the audio is never streamed or uploaded.
Reading audio files you select — only the specific file you pick is opened, so Gist can transcribe an existing recording. Gist does not browse or scan your storage.
Internet — used only for the one-time model download described below. Gist does not transmit your recordings, transcripts or notes over the internet at any time.

5. The one-time model download

For Gist to work fully offline, it needs its models on your device. The first time you set up Gist, it downloads these models (the speech-to-text and language models) over the internet from Hugging Face, a third-party model host. This is a normal file download.

Like any download, Hugging Face's servers receive the standard technical information involved in serving a file (for example, your device's IP address and the request for the model files). This download contains none of your personal content — no audio, no transcripts, no notes. Once the models are on your device, Gist works without an internet connection. Hugging Face's handling of request data is governed by their own privacy policy at huggingface.co/privacy.

6. Children's privacy

Gist is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone. Because Gist collects no data at all, it stores nothing about any user, including children.

7. Data security

Your content stays in Gist's private app storage on your own device and is protected by your device's own security (such as your screen lock and Android's app sandboxing). Because nothing is transmitted to us or to any server, there is no remote database of your information to be breached.

8. Changes to this policy

If Gist's behaviour ever changes in a way that affects your privacy, we will update this policy and revise the "last updated" date above before that change ships.
